Origami Modular Sheriff's Star

This is one of those origami that surprises you at the end. As you assemble the units for this origami modular sheriff's star, you may just think that you're just creating a 5-pointed star, but when you complete the assembly, you actually get a 5-pointed star in the center, as well a 5-pointed star on the outside!

Origami Modular Sheriff's Star Step 1: Start by cutting the regular 6 inch x 6 inch (15cm x 15cm) square origami paper into two. We'll use half the sheet for one unit.

Origami Modular Sheriff's Star Step 2: Start with the half sheet, color side down. Fold paper in half on both the horizontal and vertical axis. Crease well and unfold.

Origami Modular Sheriff's Star Step 3: Fold the left edge to the center crease. Crease well and unfold.

Origami Modular Sheriff's Star Step 4: Make 2 diagonal folds on the right side.

Origami Modular Sheriff's Star Step 5: Fold the right tip (point A) to point B.

Origami Modular Sheriff's Star Step 6: Fold the top and bottom right halves to the center crease.

Origami Modular Sheriff's Star Step 7: Make 2 diagonal folds as indicated below.

Origami Modular Sheriff's Star Step 8: Flip paper over and rotate.

Origami Modular Sheriff's Star Step 9: Fold R-S to X-Y and tuck paper under the X-Y-Z layer.

Origami Modular Sheriff's Star Step 10: Make a valley fold as indicated below. The crease is approximately at point Z.

Origami Modular Sheriff's Star Step 11: Fold point T-U to X-Y.

And this completes one modular unit.

Origami Modular Sheriff's Star Step 12: Repeat Steps 1 to 12 and make a total of 5 units.
