Origami Biddle Double Heart

Origami Biddle Double Heart is a design by Steve Biddle. A square paper is transformed into a small heart that sits outside a larger heart. This is an intermediate origami which takes a while to fold. You should be comfortable with making various squash folds and inside reverse folds. Take some time and enjoy the journey of transforming your flat sheet of square paper into this lovely double heart. Even though the instructions are long, it will take you less time to fold it than it did for us to create this page!

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 1: Start by folding an origami pig base . There is a separate page of instructions for the pig base. Please follow the instructions and complete the pig base for the left side only.

You should have the following to start with.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 2: Unfold paper completely.

Fold paper in half by bringing the top half down to the bottom.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 3: Fold point A to B. Crease well and unfold.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 4: Now fold C-D to C-E. Crease well and unfold.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 5: Here comes our first squash fold. Pry left side of the paper open, bring it over to the right and squash paper flat to form a triangle.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 6: Fold the top layerfrom the right to left.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 7: Make a horizontal valley fold as shown for the top layer.

As you do so, make a vertical valley fold on the bottom half, folding it from left to right. Press paper flat.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 8: Flip paper over. We're going to repeat Step 7 on this side.

First make the horizontal valley fold for the top layer.

As you do so, make a vertical valley fold bringing the right part over to the left. Then press paper flat.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 9: Fold the top layerfrom the right to left.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 10: Flip paper over.

Now your paper should have a color portion (pink here) and a white portion. We want to be able to refer to the white portion later so we've nicknamed it the "white tail".

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 11: Fold the white tail to the center. Now make a horizontal valley fold on the top layer of the bottom part.

As you do so, you've pried open the paper and can then make a squash fold by pressing the paper flat.

Repeat for the left side.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 12: This is an interesting step or maybe it's a series of steps.

Pull down the top layer of the squash folds (Step 11).

As you do so, you then want to make a horizontal valley fold on the bottom half of the paper.

Once you've made the horizontal valley fold, you then need to tuck the paper under the white tail.

And bring both the left and right tips back down to the bottom.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 13: Now make 2 diagonal folds. Crease well and unfold.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 14: Use the creases you've just made to complete inside reverse folds.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 15: Make 2 small horizontal folds. Crease well and unfold.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 16: Now use those creases and make 2 inside reverse folds.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 17: Fold F-G to F-H. Crease well and unfold.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 18: Bring the white tail to the center. Proceed to pry open the white tail.

Then press paper flat.

Our white tail has disappeared!

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 19: Rotate paper.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 20: Pull down the white top layer.

As you do so, fold down the top portion and press paper flat to form what looks like a long roof/house.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 21: Make 2 small diagonal folds. Crease well.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 22: Make 2 small vertical folds. Crease well.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 23: Make 2 diagonal folds.

And voila! You see the second heart! We're in the home stretch now!

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 24: Flip paper over.

Fold the top layer from right to left.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 25: These final steps are to shape the outer heart.

Make a small vertical fold.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 26: Now make a small diagonal fold.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 27: Now fold the 2 top layersfrom the left to right.

Repeat Steps 25 and 26 on this left side.

Origami Biddle Double Heart Step 28: Finally, fold the top layer from the right back to the left.

And your origami biddle double heart is complete!
